how can a bridge be a reflection of the city and also help connect its downtown to its surroundings?

The Wabi bridge pulls itself from the patterns and curvilinear form found in its surrounding. The fluidity of the Wabi River that this bridge lies on to the traditional bentwood construction techniques that have been practiced on the Algonquin land by Timiskaming First Nations are part of its over arching roof component and its rib structure respectively. Spanning at 49meters the bridges main components which include the ribs, cross bracing, ridge beam and floor arches are constructed entirely out of Glulam that will be sourced from local forests and industry’s. Wabi Bridge aims to connect the existing STATO Trail from Haileybury to New Liskeard and at a micro scale begins to connect the downtown core of New Liskeard to the surrounding neighbourhood. In doing so, the point of connection begins to offer a place for the city to gather in and partake in various seasonal activities that will surround the existing Farmers Market.
